Leon is co-founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Compliance Champs. In this role he manages the day-to-day operations of the company. He is responsible for developing and implementing the company’s strategy and the establishment of policies that promote the company’s culture and vision. Furthermore he oversees HR operations, including recruitment, training, and development. Next to his role as a CEO, Leon is still active as a Consultant, focusing on business development and projects in the compliance risk management domain at financial institutions.

Leon is a Certified Executive Compliance & Integrity Manager (ECIM) with 10 years of experience in advising banking and insurance companies in the Netherlands, Denmark and the United Kingdom. He started his career in 2014 at Deloitte Risk Advisory. In February 2022 he started his own consultancy firm Compliance Champs together with his business partner Peter Engering.

Leon has extensive knowledge of financial regulations and his primary focus is on improving compliance risk management frameworks: defining and implementing Integrity Risk Appetite Statements, facilitating and implementing Systematic Integrity Risk Analyzes (SIRA), drafting and implementing KYC/AML policies and procedures, implementation of transaction monitoring systems, remediation of customer files and compliance monitoring investigations. He performed this work in various roles in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd line. He has extensive experience in managing projects and teams at his clients.

With a strong focus on results and a task-oriented mentality, Leon consistently strives to deliver sustainable and comprehensive solutions that are both effective and efficient. He is a dedicated team player, determined to achieve high-quality outcomes through a structured and integrated approach, ensuring the support of all relevant stakeholders.

In his spare time, Leon loves exercising (padel, cycling, running) but also watching sports , particularly football and Formula 1. Furthermore he likes cooking, wine and having dinner at a fancy restaurant. He is a traveller who likes to discover other countries and cultures. Last but not least, my family and friends mean everything to him.
